STARTING SCHOOL
Starting school is a special time for the student and parents. We do everything we can to ensure that it is a positive time for everyone. The first step is to book an appointment to meet the School Principal, Jackie Sutherland, to discuss your child starting school and be given a tour of our kura.
The school office will give you the enrolment information and organise three visits for you and your child to the class prior to starting. Parents are invited to stay and observe during the first two visits but are encouraged to leave for the last visit, so new students can begin to socialise and interact with their teacher and classmates. We highly encourage visits so that you and your child can:
Visiting day is on a Wednesday from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Please bring a cut up piece of fruit or vegetables to join in with the class for fruit break.
We welcome children into our New Entrant classes with a focus on easing the transition from the Early Childhood Education environment to the school environment. Sometimes additional support may be required to transition children to school.
New Families Welcome Afternoon Tea
Once during each of the school terms we will host an afternoon tea for new families to meet the Principal and New Entrant teacher. This is an opportunity for parents to share their transition experience with us and talk about our beginning school learning programmes.

What to expect on your child's first day
On your child’s first day, they will need to bring:
School finishes at 3pm but you have the option to pick your child up at 2pm for the first two weeks as they get used to a busy school day.

11.00 - 11.10am The class teachers supervise children eating their morning tea
11.10 - 11.30am Morning tea play
12.40 - 12.50pm The class teacher supervises children eating their lunch
12.50 - 1.30pm Lunch play
1.30 - 3pm Learning programmes
3.00 pm End of Day
Encouraging Healthy Eating
Students are expected to bring a packed lunch that includes fruit and vegetables and other healthy foods, and a water bottle to school each day.

- Get to know teachers and students in your child’s class
- Familiarise your child with the classroom, playground and amenities
- Parents have the chance to speak to teachers and see the classroom environment

What to expect on your child's first day

- lunch including a fruit snack, morning tea and lunch
- drink bottle
- sunhat (in Terms 1 and 4)
- a spare set of clothes can be useful for junior students
- please make sure all belongings are named.
