Year 1/2: Room 13 with Tracy Shanks and Marina Visser
Room 13 is taught by Tracy Shanks and Marina Visser. The class is a combination of Year 1 and 2 students.
Tracy is also the Assistant Principal at Miramar Central School and leads the Year 1/2 team.
My name is Tracy Shanks and I am the Assistant Principal and Teina Syndicate Leader. I have been at Miramar Central School for just over 1 year and absolutely love it!
I teach in Room 13, a Year 1 and 2 class, alongside Marina Visser. I enjoy developing an independent learning environment where students have choice in their learning. I pride myself on setting high expectations for all students. For me this is a really interesting time to be teaching as we try to prepare students for an exciting future. My passion lies in teaching writing, art and digital technologies. We have lots of fun in Room 13 and like to have a good laugh as we learn together!
My job is certainly varied and I feel very privileged to be involved in a job I love so much.
I am new to Miramar Central School and am teaching in Room 13 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I love being a part of this multicultural school.
I was born and raised in South Africa by my German parents. After completing my studies in South Africa, I lived and studied in Germany for seven years. Back in South Africa I taught at a small church school for almost 5 years. My husband and I moved to Wellington with our two boys who both attend Rongotai College. We love New Zealand.
